A media statement was released by the Minister of Higher Education which addressed the problem that the legacy qualifications NC Wealth Management, FETC Long term, FETC Wealth management and FETC Short Term Insurance would expire on 30 June 2026 and the new qualifications are still going through the accreditation process which will take 3 to 6 months. Once they are accredited training providers may then apply to be accredited as a training provider. This will also takes 3 to 6 month.

This would mean that new qualificaitons would only be available to learners in the industry from June /July 2027 at the earliest.

This would have caused a 12-to-18-month period where no qualifications are available for Wealth management, Health, Investments, Pensions, :ong and short-term insurance, which would have been unacceptable for the financial service industry and their staff who need these qualifications to become “fit and proper” in terms of the FAIS act.

In a media statement last week the Minister has agreed to allow legacy qualificaitons that fall into this, to be extended to ensure that learners in our industry will continue to have qualificaitons available to them while these new qualifications are going through this accreditation process.

The government gazette confirming was due on the 15 June 2026 to confirm the extention the dates for these legacy qualifications.

We were certain the important qualifications for the industry have been extended and we recieved the final confirmation in a Government Gazette and list of extended qualifications on 17 June 2026.

This confirms that the following qualifications relevent to financial advises that we currently offer have been extended for 24 Months. The deadline for enrolment for these programs is now 30 June 2028. Relevent programs offered by RSC extended for 2 years until 30 June 2028:

57608 National Certificate: Wealth Management

57917 Further Education and Training Certificate: Wealth Management
49929 Further Education and Training Certificate: Short Term Insurance
49649 Further Education and Training Certificate: Long-term Insurance

RSC is very grateful to INSETA and FPI who helped to motivate for this vital extention for the industry.

The new qualifications have all been through the verification process with QCTO and the industry and have been submitted for approval by the QCTO, SAQA and the FSCA and this extention gives sufficient time for this approval to be completed, while providing enough time for training providers to then apply to provide these qualifications.
